New Hampshire Fishing
CAST YOUR LINE HERE
If your idea of a relaxing getaway is casting a line on smooth waters and reeling in a catch, you’re in luck. You can catch several species in spots like Echo Lake State Park in North Conway. The Granite State has 12,000 miles of rivers and streams, as well as 975 lakes and ponds. Nearly a million rainbow, brook and brown trout, as well as landlocked salmon, are stocked by the NH Fish and Game Department every year.
Children under age 16 do not need a license to fish, so bringing them along can be key to outdoor family fun. New Hampshire’s annual Free Fishing Day falls in June. You can fish any fresh or salt water in N.H. without a license that day. Applies to both residents and non-residents. All other fishing regulations apply.
This is New England, so no mention of fishing would be complete without talking about ice fishing. A good pair of insulated boots and long johns are musts when fishing through man-made openings in the frozen water. Layer for protection and don’t forget a warm hat and mittens. Ice fishing season can last from late December through mid-April.
